What Goes Wrong with DIY and Budget Artificial Grass
The most common failure is drainage. Artificial grass is not permeable in the same way as real turf — water must drain through the backing perforations and into the sub-base below. If the sub-base is poorly drained clay or compacted soil, water pools on top of the artificial surface, creating puddles, algae growth, and an unpleasant smell in warm weather.
